MARKIN MACPHAIL ARENA
SUSTAINABILITY AND SPORT, IN THE HEART OF ALBERTA | CALGARY, CANADA

The Markin Macphail Center is one of the Arena buildings at Winsport, in Calgary, Canada. Located next to the Rocky Mountains, its sustainable use of materials in structure reflects a harmony with the nature in which it presides. Long-span heavy timber structure give the arena its unique character and allow for expansive, column-free interiors.
The high-performance training section boasts an extensive fitness area, a modern running track, advanced sports medicine clinics, and state-of-the-art testing laboratories. It also houses offices for coaches, physicians, physiotherapists, sport psychologists, and other support services. This adaptable training space incorporates enclosed sprint tracks, cutting-edge strength training equipment, and specialized areas tailored to meet the unique requirements of different sports.

The organic warmth of heavy timber provides an inviting atmosphere, creating a unique ambiance for each function. The structural adaptability of the arena allows it to evolve with changing needs, offering an eco-friendly and aesthetically pleasing space. This flexible architectural space becomes a dynamic canvas for an array of activities, fostering community engagement.
